Hello & Welcome to another installment of the Tuesday Tip blog series!  I’m super excited about today’s post because it’s a FUN one!  We got right down to business and a LOT of content in the first two posts in the series which you can find here and here, but today will be a bit lighter.  We are going to take a look at ALLL the things about photographing bridal details… what to bring and how to prepare for them to be photographed!

Before I began my wedding photography journey, I didn’t even know what “bridal details” meant.  And I likely would have wondered why someone would want to photograph my perfume anyway!  What’s that about, right?!?!  Well, after many years in the industry, I can tell ya’ that it’s about YOUR STORY.  As a photographer, I want to tell your story, and even the smallest of details, nuances, and moments of your wedding day are truly just as important to that story as many other, seemingly “larger” aspects.  So, during my pre-wedding consultation with couples, we allow time in the timeline for photographing details and I provide a specific list of what those details may include. (You may have some or all of the items on the list, but be sure to include whatever you DO have…it ALL matters!)  And ladies, it DOES NOT MATTER AT ALL if your scent of choice is not Prada or your shoes are not Manolo Blahniks.  Just hand over YOUR beautiful details that YOU have chosen for YOUR special day, and your photographer will take care of the rest!

Recommended Detail List:

-wedding gown

-wedding veil and/or headpiece

-bridesmaid dresses

-earrings

-necklace

-bracelet

-perfume

-wedding shoes

-all three rings (engagement and both bands)

-bouquets (bride and bridesmaid)

spare floral pieces, scraps of ribbon, etc. (any left-overs used in the décor can possibly be used in styling your details, so it’s a good idea to have a few nearby)

-paper suite (ALL printed items: invitation suite, menu, place cards, table numbers, etc.)

-family heirlooms (this may be a grandmother’s broach, a scrap from your mother’s wedding dress, a special handkerchief, etc.)

-your gift to your groom

Preparation:

As we talked about in an earlier post, time is of the essence on a wedding day, so it’s important to be as efficient as possible.  So, when preparing for photographing details, I ask my bride’s to place their items in a designated bag, or box, or in one spot inside of the getting ready space.  Because details are the first things I photograph on a wedding day, I am able to arrive, grab the bag or box of details, and get to work!  Not only does this allow us all to save time, but it also allows you the time to prepare for the day without having to hear, “Can I have your earrings, please?”, “Do you know where your shoes are?”, “Could I please have your ring?”.  We don’t want you to have to worry about anything extra.  A little planning can go a LONG way!

I hope this has given you a little bit of information on which bridal details to have prepared and ready for your photographer on the day of your wedding!  PLEASE comment or shoot me a message with questions if there are other questions you’d like answered or if there’s something you’d like to see posted in another Tuesday Tip post!

Next Tuesday, we will take a look at the Groom’s Details!

Happy Tuesday, friends!

M xoxo
